Researchers Identify Gene That Regulates Breast Cancer Metastasis

Researchers at The Wistar Institute have identified a key gene (KLF17) involved in the spread of breast cancer throughout the body. They also demonstrated that expression of KLF17 together with another gene (Id1) known to regulate breast cancer metastasis accurately predicts whether the disease will spread to the lymph nodes. Previously, the function of KLF17 had been unknown.

Peregrine Pharmaceuticals Reports 61% Objective Response Rate in 46-Patient Bavituximab Phase II Trial In Advanced Breast Cancer

Peregrine Pharmaceuticals, Inc. reported positive results from its Phase II trial evaluating bavituximab in combination with docetaxel in patients with advanced breast cancer. Preliminary data at the end of the six planned treatment cycles in the Phase II study showed that 28 of 46, or 61%, of all patients enrolled in the trial achieved an objective tumor response according to RECIST criteria.
